HOW MARVELOUS, HOW WONDERFUL

God is good to allow me to do a great number of things, but one of my favorite things in all of the world is getting to be a greeter at Southern Hills Baptist Church. Every Sunday morning you can find me greeting and distributing bulletins at Door #11.

I basically love everything about it. I love getting to see church members come from Sunday School. I enjoy the handshakes that I get from the men. I adore all of the hugs that I get from the senior adult ladies. I even like it when the older men give me a hard time for not wearing a coat and tie. (Not only am I the youngest usher by a couple decades, but I am also the only one that does not wear a coat and tie. Oops.)

Even more than all of that, I love it when I see a new face coming towards me. I love getting to greet them and welcome them to Southern Hills. I love getting to tell them how happy I am that they are there.

Yesterday it got a little bit better. As I was standing there passing out bulletins, I noticed some familiar faces, but not familiar Southern Hills’ faces. Those faces belonged to my dad, my little brother, and my uncle.

This is a big deal people! I cannot tell you how happy I was that they were there. But, my heart also was heavy. I can count on one hand the number of times my family has been to church in the last nine or ten years.

Having said all of that, I am asking that you join me in doing two things: thank God that my family came on Sunday and please pray that they would start seeking God daily and that God would continue to reveal himself to them. Pray that they would take him as both Savior and Lord.

“I Stand Amazed” was our invitation song yesterday. What a sweet, precious, humbling thought.

I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene, and wonder how He could love me, a sinner, condemned, unclean. O how marvelous! O how wonderful! And my song shall ever be: O how marvelous! O how wonderful! Is my Savior’s love for me!

He took my sins and my sorrows, He made them His very own; He bore the burden to Calvary, and suffered and died alone. O how marvelous! O how wonderful! And my song shall ever be: O how marvelous! O how wonderful! Is my Savior’s love for me!

When with the ransomed in glory His face I at last shall see, ’twill be my joy through the ages to sing of His love for me. O how marvelous! O how wonderful! And my song shall ever be: O how marvelous! O how wonderful! Is my Savior’s love for me!

  2. Tommy, you are one of a kind, & I’m thrilled we have gotten to know you. Don’t worry about not wearing a suit coat & tie. I think you look just fine. Besides, it’s not about what a person wears, it’s more important in the way your heart is on the inside. You’re a great greeter. That’s exciting news that your family was there on Sunday. We’ll pray that their hearts will be stirred towards a relationship with Jesus Christ.
