After I posted the first part of this list on Wednesday, I began focusing in on 1 Kings 8:56 that afternoon. Before I started to memorize that passage, I wanted to get a better understanding of what was happening in the passage. As many of you know, Solomon is building and dedicating the Temple in the first part of this book. As I skimmed those first several chapters and began to read the through chapter 8, I was struck by verse 28. Solomon began his prayer of dedication with these words: Continue reading “FAITH BUILDING VERSES, PT. 2”

Each week we have a meeting that includes all of our church staff and one of us will share a brief devotional. Last week our devotion was done via FaceTime by Ruffin and at one point, he had Pastor Doug recite Nahum 1:7; “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.” Ruffin said something after this that stuck with me. He called that a faith building verse. Hearing that did two things for me: Continue reading “FAITH BUILDING VERSES, PT. 1”

I love the thrill of competition. I love the trash talk that it generates. I love the false hope that my opponents are able to conjure up. I love it when I demolish those wretched individuals. I love fantasy sports!

I greatly look forward to those weeks when I get to set my lineup, work the waiver wire, and make a couple of acquisitions. All of this is done from a sincere hope and expectation that I will win. After all, I am a winner and winning is what I do. I always look forward to competing. And I am quite good at it. I am the REIGNING 2017 B-BALL BRO’S CHAMPION! Read Acts 4:1-22

I want us to think for just a few moments about this response that we see from Peter and John here in Acts 4. These two apostles were just used in Acts 3 to heal a man who had been lame since birth. This man was unable to walk and everyday his friends would carry him and lay him at the temple gate. There at the temple, this man would beg for what he needed to survive. Everyday this man was at the temple.

The Jews would have likely been familiar with this beggar. On this particular day, Peter and John were going to the temple and this lame man asked them for some help. Peter gives what is at first a bummer of an answer. He says, “I don’t have any money to give you…” but he doesn’t stop there. He says, “what I do have, I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk.” Continue reading “WHAT CAN YOU NOT STOP TALKING ABOUT?”

The only suitable way to begin this post is to apologize. It has been 576 days since my last post. That is nearly 14,000 hours since you all have last heard from me in this format. What a shame. What an atrocity. I know how much you people liked reading my posts…all five of you…and then it all stopped. And for that, I am sorry.

Since we last sat and talked in this way, a lot of stuff has happened! I graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma and got my first full-time job and moved out of my momma’s house and started graduate school and bought my first car all by myself and put together my last will and testament. You heard right. Your boy is growing up. Continue reading “576 DAYS LATER”
